Last Thursday Kate was doing a back handspring at tumbling when she heard a loud pop and felt a ton of pain in her arm.
Because I am an extremely sensitive person, I told her to quit the whining and go to bed...she'd feel better in the morning.
But she didn't.
We made an appointment with our pediatrician for later that day, and as it happens, her elbow is broken.
I felt so bad I took her to lunch and said, "Order whatever you want."
She replied, "I'm having the steak."
She wore a splint for a few days until she could be seen by the orthopedic surgeon.
Fortunately, her arm wasn't swollen and was lining up just right, so they were able to put her in a cast on Tuesday.
All done!
Except it was too tight! So they had to cut it off and start all over.
Second time was the charm.
Her first signature.
Since we have two casts laying around, Kate's been working on her "Charlie Shelton" impression.
In the midst of all of this, Bruce had ankle surgery.
Guys, believe me when I say that I have lived through entire years that seemed shorter than this past week.
Thanks to all for the meals, the babysitting, and the calls to check in on us.
Today things seem back to normal. Bruce has been able to go back to work, and Kate is back in school. Kiki has had to deal with the shocking and painful revelation that the world doesn't revolve around her. Kiki also took Kate's spot in tumbling. "I hope I don't break MY arm!" she said as we walked out the door last night.
