I've had fun
exploring the Fort and have been on a scavenger hunt of sorts for the sculptures. I had found a magazine article discussing the art of Fort Bonifacio at length. Surprisingly though, the article failed to mention the location of any of them, so the scavenger hunt was out of necessity.

"Kawaysayan Bawat Oros"
The seven figures represent the 7,000 islands of the Philippines. It is also a sundial. |
 |
"Balanghai"
Inspired by the boats that brought the first Malays to the Philippines. The 3 sails move with the wind and represent the islands of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. |
 |
"Pasasalamat"
The fisherman look skyward as their net fills with fish, representing gratitude to the Almighty for daily blessings. This one is right in front of our apartment. |
 |
"Kasalikasan"
This one is more like a park or amphitheater. It is about experiencing the wonders of nature- the name of the park is a play on a Tagalog phrase that translates to "You are part of nature." This one is across the street- we can see down into it from our apartment and the girls call it "The Circle Park." The artist intended it to be a place where city dwellers could take a break from their fast paced lives. It is always empty, so I guess no one here needs a break. |
Now, on to other matters...

| Kate begged to cut her hair. I made her think on it for a couple of weeks. but she was serious, so we went through with it. I think the change has made her a little self conscious. She is always fussing and worrying that her bangs are laying right. She seems like a teenager sometimes- she worries about her clothes and such. |

| Kiki said, "Those cats have TAILS!" It was true, and surprising because cats here don't have tails for the most part. I think this was a mom and her baby. No one has a pet cat here, there are only strays. I think they might be the equivalent of rats in the states- they are meant to live in the streets and no one in their right mind would have them as a pet. |

The Hatch family will know why we took this photo.
Miss you guys. |
Last thing on my mind: my Aunt Kaye passed away a couple of days ago. It had been a long time coming, and her husband (my Uncle Jerry) had died several months ago. I am sad, and I feel really far from home when I think about this. With Skype and other forms of technology it is easy to tell yourself that you aren't TOO far away, but I feel terrible that her funeral isn't even possible for me.
