Firsts for Kate

Kate received her first report card a few days ago. Kindergartners here get numbers, not letters, 1 through 4, 4 is the best. Kate earned mostly 4's. Math is her strong point, which is not shocking at all considering her genetic make-up. She received no 1's, and only one 2- in penmanship. I don't know about that. I've volunteered in her class quite a bit, and while I am not asserting that her handwriting is awesome, there isn't anyone in the class better than her, either.

Another first: Her first dance recital! She was so nervous before the dress rehearsal- I had to seriously talk her down, but after the dress rehearsal she was so excited! That kid always pulls through when it counts.I think her favorite part may have been that she got to wear make-up. "I need lipstick for my hen outfit, and a different color lipstick for my piano player outfit."

Kate as a hen.

She was thrilled to get flowers after. She did such a good job!

She was in two performances- one Friday night, and one Saturday night. Friday night she wasn't nervous at all. She said, "I'm as excited as the whole world!" Saturday night she got a case of the nerves and fell apart a little right before, but once the recital started she was fine. Jack, Kay, and Merrilee all came to see her, and she basked in the glow of admiration.

And another first, but this one is mine: one of Kate's school classmates was in the recital, and when she hollered, "Mrs. Hatch! HI, Mrs. Hatch!" I immediately knew she was talking about me instead of looking around for my mother-in-law. Only took a decade...

She looks so cute. And you were worried about her going to kindergarten. She is at the top of her class.

I wish we could have been there to see it! She looks beautiful with her grown up make up and missing teeth! She and Jake must be cousins or something. He would choose math all day long if it was up to him and handwriting is also his Achilles heel. This generation is not going to be doing much writing anyway. I say just start with the typing lessons.

That is too cute! You'll have to tell me where she takes lessons. Rylee is already asking about dance. Ahhh!

Ah, she's so cute, and I'm glad she likes performing. We're on a 1-4 grading system too, and my kids hardly ever get 4's at all. Mason gets 4's in reading but that's it, it's 3's for him. Weird about the handwriting thing. Anyway she's a smarty pants and it's not like you need some scale to tell you that.

Cute! Cute! Cute! I'm inspired by her dance costume. . .I may just have to be a hen for Halloween ;). Congrats on her good marks. You should be proud. She's a smartie and growing so fast. You have a good girl on your hands.
