Grover Boyz Picnic 2012

We love Labor Day weekend...it's the annual Grover Boyz Picnic in Southern Utah.   Jack and Doug invite their nearest and dearest for the festivities.
I think these two have manned the grill every single year.

Aunt Angie is always close to spoil the girls.

We eat lots and make merry.

Kiki had an introspective/tortured artist type moment.

Rosie is the guest of honor.  Here's a few pieces of information that will become pertinent in a moment: 1) Rosie is an Australian Shepherd and kind of famous in certain circles.  2) Jack and Doug have been fans of the breed for decades, I dare say.  3) Every year I make a special "Grover Boyz Sugar Cookie."  4) I have a touch of OCD.
I will admit that sometimes when I am googling "Sheepdog Cookie Cutter" and trying to decide what color of brown sanding sugar will most closely approximate Rosie, I think to myself, "I have a mental problem."

But then, when my cookies turn out this awesome I think to myself that I just have an unusual level of dedication.  For the morbidly curious, I wound up mixing my own red and brown sanding sugar and making a test batch to make sure that the color was exactly what I wanted.  Now we're back to thinking that maybe I DO have a mental problem.

My nephew Theo.  "Aunt Becca, you can only have a picture of my shoe."

Rainbow.

The morning after the picnic, we climbed Popcorn Rock.

Jack and Ben started a manly capri trend.  The one on the left is a little more committed to it.

We hiked on Boulder Mountain with Jack.

Jack knows a lot about the wilderness- it's one of my favorite things about hiking with him.  Hikes with him are among my fondest memories, and I hope my girls are the same.  I also hope that Jack forgets what giant whiners my kids are.

Old initials: We think 1923.
Bruce had a new purchase to try.  Kate was willing to help out.
It was another successful get-together and I'm already brainstorming the Great Sugar Cookie of 2013.

Maybe "Munchstaches" or something that would creep Dave and Ben out like fetuses.

Mit Romney heads or book of mormons would have fit the theme for this year. Oh wait. Maybe that will be next year tooo.
