Holiday Tradition?

Because we have been away the last couple of Christmases, I am feeling that we have very few holiday traditions. Although, if I get technical, going away, then, IS the tradition. But, I am hoping for us to have things that we do when we are home for Christmas. This year we are trying some new things- we had a sugar cookie party, and tonight I took Kate to the Nutcracker- a first, and a success. It remains to be seen what becomes traditional for us.

The thing I remember most about Christmas growing up was the music. We always had music playing, or we were making it- standing around the piano singing, or learning songs for recitals or choirs, or just playing through the Reader's Digest Songbook. Even now, my favorite way to celebrate the season is to sit down and play. I could go for hours, and if I can convince someone to join me- even better.

I did coerce the girls to join me a couple of nights ago. It's clear coercion was involved, because in one video they don't even try to sing on tune, and in the other Kiki gives poor Bruce (behind the camera) some serious stink-eye and a half-hearted "Hey." at the end.

Ignore Kate's hair. It was after the bath and I bought conditioner the very next day.

AWESOME hair! :D Kate was a pretty good sport there, and did a great job singing out, but who was that grumpy kid? Can't possibly be related to Kate ... No. Impossible.

Becca, traditions are good. We hadn't had them, you and your cousins may never had spent time together. It's hard and frustrating at times, but so worth it! Thanks for such a fun day today. You did a marvelous job. I'm so glad someone has carried that "music tradition" forward because we did that as a child at your Great Grandma Judd's for as long as I can remember. Love you. Auntie $

That is too cute! They will truly appreciate that in about 20 years!

Boy! That was quite a party you're having...ha.ha.ha. I WISH that I had you to play the piano for us. I am so bad that the kids get frustrated and start to frump around waiting for me to get the notes right. We are, however, good singers and there is generally some bad dancing involved as well.

This is what Christmas is all about. Thanks for sharing some of your traditions. I hope an annual holiday family sing-a-long is part of your blog for years to come.
