We made a
trip around the neighborhood today. We went back to Market Market for a few odds and ends for the house, then went to Rustan's, a local supermarket that was recommended to us. Rustan's is in a strip mall with a drugstore, a deli, and a bakery, and I'm guessing we will be regular customers. When the cab dropped us off I thought that there was no way that there could be an entire supermarket in there, but you can fit a lot of groceries in a building if the aisles are only two feet apart. It was nuts. Happily, though, they had a little of a lot of different things, and we found many things we wanted to eat. The prices are not cheap. We paid over $3.00 for a bottle of mandarin oranges, about $1.50 for spices, $2.50 for a smallish bag of Cheetos (I know, I know, I could have refrained), and $2.00 for a yogurt-sized container of cottage cheese. What I am dying about are the eggs...only $1.59 but they are kept at room temperature. On a shelf. What the what?

| Notice the sell by date. Yep, these eggs could be sitting out at room temperature for well over a month before purchase. I'm trying to tell myself that it must be safe or everyone who eats eggs would be dead, but something just seems so wrong. |

Spit that out, kid! Don't you know eggs are a death sentence?!?!?
What really upset her was biting into a hard boiled egg and discovering that the yolk was orange. |
I will definitely post some pics of the grocery store experience but it was so insanely busy that I didn't dare be the crazy American at that moment.
 |
| This has nothing to do with my post, but I was sitting by my window reading when I caught sight of these two workers at the very top of the building next to us. I had heart palpitations just watching them...they are about 40 or 45 stories up. |

It's so fun to hear about your adventures!!! Love you so much! It's weird driving through the neighborhood now. I feel a physical void when I pass your house. And the only bit of conversion I know is 350*F=180*C??? I have some Brazilian cheese bread that tells me that. :) Love you!!!
Oh, I've had so much fun looking through your photos and reading about all the fun and craziness. Those eggs scare me. But everything else looks awesome. You are talking about the filth in your apartment, and I'm thinking, holy crap, she must throw up a little when she comes in my house! I love the apartment- very spare and modern looking. Love it. And also, the pool? My kids would FREAK out. That thing is cool. Keep the stories coming.
