Kate had a most exciting birthday on Thursday!
She hardly slept the night before. |
| She received two new books, one she asked for and one that was my favorite when I was little- Little House In The Big Woods. She also got a Playmobil toy and two new pairs of shoes: one for every day and one for her baptism day. |
| The telescope was her "big" present. This serves as a warning to all of our neighbors now and in the future: Keep Your Curtains Closed. There is no star-gazing here due to the disgusting and ever-present pollution. Stars are out of the question- we've never even seen the moon here. |
| She picked out this cake from the bakery down the street, but then worried it wouldn't be enough, so I wound up baking a cake also at the last possible minute. |
| No one really has family here, so during big days we count on friends to make things special, and our circle here did an amazing job celebrating with Kate. I was so grateful for those in the PH and also for those who sent faraway wishes. |
| Kate was beyond thrilled to have a swim party- having a December birthday and living in Utah makes a pool party seem like the best thing ever. |
| Kate chose Texas Roadhouse for her birthday dinner. And, no, it does not taste just like home. |
| It was close enough though. |
All in all it was a great day for her. I think she felt special and loved all day long, and that's all I hoped for. Her baptism date is scheduled for Sunday, January 15th, and we are looking forward to that.
