Tying Up Loose Ends

I realized I have a few matters to address:

Numero Uno: The talk on Sunday went well. My topic was "Family First" and I found I had quite a bit to say on the matter. I've a friend in the bishopric whose last words to me before I spoke were, "Don't pull any punches." I smiled blandly all the while thinking, "My last paragraph contains the phrases, 'You are deluding yourself, ' 'Total rationalization on your part,' and 'Prince of Darkness,' so you should be careful what you ask of me." I'd say it went well.

Numero Dos: I engaged in a little letter writing therapy. I'm sure you've heard it said that if you are feeling frustrated with someone you should write them a letter and just never mail it. (Unless you are Crazy Dave circa 1996 in which you do mail just such a letter to one Brooke Olsen, making the phrase "I was a pretty bird and you plucked my feathers" part of the collective jargon of a certain set of roomates.) Today I wrote a letter to Bruce's ex-business partner, only when I was done I thought to myself, "This is some good stuff," and I clicked on SEND. I'm feeling better already.

Numero tres: OFFICIAL BREAKING DAWN BOOK REVIEW. Let's not even get caught up in the whole "Stephanie Meyer endorses rough sex" debate. My real problem with the book was that the story arc falls a little flat. SPOILER ALERT. Come on, I followed along for hundreds of pages as the Cullens prepare for an epic battle with the head vampires over the existence of a mongrel baby, and after all that build up, the whole climax of the story can be summed up with, "...and then the Cullens talked them out of it." Lame.

I wish I could have attended your talk. I'm sure it was excellent.

Also, did your letter contain the phrase "pinnacles of ecstasy?"

Stephanie Meyers could have gleaned some good material out of that letter. I wonder if I still have it.

Isn't, "Don't pull any punches..." more like challenging you to come up with something good?

agreed. breaking dawn was a bust. i couldn't believe that's how she let the saga end. i felt like she was tired as she wrote this book. such a bummer!

pushing send is always such an suspenseful moment. glad to hear you are feeling better. may be i should do that with my x direct report.
