Happy H1-llowee-N1.

Halloween was dangerously close to being a total bust for us.
Kate woke up Wednesday morning with a terrible cough, and being slightly paranoid given the season of sickness, I took her immediately to the pediatrician. Luckily (I guess) she was diagnosed with the croup and given a steroid for her lungs. She and Kiki also received their flu vaccinations when we were in. In hindsight, that may not have been the best decision on my part, since the steroid prescription had a giant red label that said something to the effect of, "Reduces ability to fight contagious illness..." So, by Friday she had a fever of 102. I called the pediatrician again, and the nurse called me back to tell me not to bring her in because they wouldn't test/treat her, but to just assume it was H1N1, sterilize my house, put her in isolation...on and on. I about crapped. Fortunately Bruce was home from work early, and willing to Clorox doorknobs and phones.

She was in the mood to celebrate!
Look how red her cheeks were, poor kid.

I tried to show her a little fun Friday night by making "Monster Pizzas."

They were even SCARIER when cooked.

Kiki has a real knack for dressing aproppriately for the weather.
She will avoid illness for sure.
Frankly, it's a miracle she has a coat on.

This morning, Kate's fever broke. I'm pretty sure that the fever was due to the steroid/vaccination combination and not H1N1. I didn't want to have to tell her she couldn't go trick or treating. It's such a big deal to a 5 year old.

Jill's birthday is today. I continue to get mileage out of my awesome cupcake holder.

Kiki snuggled up to Papa Doug. She loves him.

Justin thought the black frosting I made was awesome.

My costume was the "Girl Dave Barratt." If you know my brother, you also know that he has a standard uniform. My neighbors were worried that when Dave came to the party at my mom's he wouldn't be dressed the same as me, but he's a creature of habit, so we were twins.

Kate trick-or-treated at a few houses, then we brought her home to rest.

Bruce dressed up as a terrifying scarecrow. He sewed his costume all by himself. Next year he might let the burlap air out before wrapping his face in it, since he got a little high off of burlap fumes.
Then he roamed the streets scaring innocent children.
(Re-enactment.)

Sorry Kate was so sick. She looks pretty bad there. I liked your costume! Very appropriate. Did Kiki out-and-out refuse to wear her costume? It looks like she just wore clothes. I guess that is kind of a costume for her. Pants and a coat that is, so she was pretending to be a normally dressed kid in winter. . . ?

Jake was so sick his Kindergarten year. I'm glad Kate rebounded enough to trick or treat. Did you make those cupcakes? How did you make the frosting look so professional? Also, love the monster pizzas. I may steal that idea for dinner tonight.

I was terrified my kids would be sick and not able to trick or treat. They would have been devastated. So glad Kate made it out. I have been looking for a non tacky cupcake holder for a long time and have not been able to find one.

Your pizzas were very scary. Poor Kate. Being sick on Halloween stinks! She still looked cute in her costume. Glad to see the brother costume came through for you. I loved being Chance this year--and I'm sure he loved it too ;). Happy Nove!

The reenactment of Bruce scaring people was hilarious!

I'm sorry that Kate was sick...uuggh. I'm hoping that you were able to get ahead of the virus.

Kiki kills me. Where did that child come from? For someone who wore a bikini for 154 consecutive days this summer, I can't believe that she wouldn't want to re-live the dream on Halloween. ha.ha.ha.
