Book Review

I finished "This Land is Their Land" by Barbara Ehrenreich. I'm going to give it my highest recommendation. The book is made up of brief essays, largely centered on the growing gap between the rich and poor, as well as other social commentary. I have serious vocabulary envy. A couple of my favorite paragraphs:

"Larry Craig was apprehended by a man apparently consigned to spend his entire day on the can, watching for errant fingers. Perhaps this fellow has some intestinal issues that made this a necessary posting. But, sphincter control permitting, could he not have been more usefully employed, say, questioning passengers as to their willingness to blow themselves up to score some theological point?"

"(Abstinence) training is generously subsidized by the federal government, and has been since President Clinton signed the welfare reform bill of 1996, which provided abstinence training for impoverished women (though not, alas, for him)."
