So much for stimulating the economy with my excessive holiday spending...
Bruce spent Thanksgiving morning perusing the heaviest newspaper of the year for the best deals. We have been in something of an monetary "lockdown" lately, since both of us are happier leaving our money in the bank rather than spending it, especially with our crazy economy. However, there was a Blue-Ray DVD player that caught Bruce's eye, and it was a great enough price that it seemed worth it to open our wallets. The only thing, then, that was left to be decided was which one of us was a big enough sucker to go fight the crowds in the early hours of a dark, wet morning. Short answer? Me. I'm the sucker.
Of course, by the time I got to the first location, the DVD player was sold out. Dollars spent: 0.
By the time I arrived at the second location, also sold out. An employee did offer to "check the back," but for all I know he took a smoke break and spent the walk back inside perfecting his "We don't have it but I feel really bad in a very personal way" sorrowful expression. Dollars spent: 0. I arrived home from my early a.m. shopping expedition having spent exactly nothing (except my precious time!). And for the morbidly curious, Bruce found the DVD player online for the exact same price, with free shipping. Thank you, Dell.
A later venture to Old Navy and Target with Liza this morning was more successful. Still though, I think I was pretty darn conservative, despite the psychology of a "Black Friday" shopping expedition. Economy, I've done all I'm willing to do today, and now I'm battening down the hatches again.

I'll never forget the year Wes went to Best Buy at 4AM to get this killer digital camera deal. It was of course sold out in the first 3 seconds they opened, and he ended up standing in line for four hours to buy a regular priced camera instead. Black friday indeed!
yeah but it was a kick butt camera (but i could have walked down there at 2pm and gotten the same price...doh!)
