It's not that the last day or so has been exciting or anything, it's just been kind of fun! Janet's kids came to play yesterday while she went to kindergarten for an hour. They play together so cute, and Kiki loves Janet's baby. Kiki covers him with her special blanket, and helped to give him his bottle, and tried to rock him in his carseat, but really she was just shaking him a lot, so I put a stop to that. When Janet left Kate looked at me accusingly and said, "How come you two aren't canning anything today?"
We then went to Bountiful for a play date. Julie is a "girl soul-mate" of mine, and it is so interesting to see that our daughters are the same way. Within hours of their first meeting they told us, "We are best friends now." That's pretty much how it went with Julie and I. We played and played. Rach screamed that she saw a grasshopper, and as she was running away, Kate was RACING to go catch it, and catch it she did.
Thanks, Julie for the picture that I totally stole off your blog without your permission...Hopefully I've not violated your copyrights.

Kiki was a good girl and slept the whole way up AND the whole way home. On the way home Kate said, "Do you know what happens when we die?" I said, "We go to heaven." And she said, "You are wrong! We live under the dirt. We die and then we go under the dirt." Guess all those family home evening lessons are NOT paying off.
Last night was my cooking class. Thank goodness for my ultra-competent partners. We taught about corn, so we made our own cornmeal and turned that into cornbread, corn tortillas, white chili with hominy, chicken enchilada soup, polenta, and flavored popcorns. This class started out as an enrichment thing for church, but it has taken on a life of its own, because we even have men coming now. All are welcome at the Manila 5th Wooden Spoon!
This morning was a good one. Kiki miraculously fell asleep immediately after we dropped Kate off to school, so I had 2 1/2 blissful hours to myself. It's amazing how much I can get done when I am uninterrupted. I spiffed up my whole house including doing some mopping. (Sidebar: I spent my birthday money on a Shark Steam Floor Cleaner. Now, nothing will ever get your floors as clean as a good old-fashioned scrubbing , but I must say that the Shark is running a close second.) I had time to read the newspaper, and my US magazine, and eat my lunch in peace. I also was able to talk to both of Bruce's sisters. It is Christy's birthday today, and she told me, "I got my heart monitor today, and then later I'm going to a viewing." What a nice sister, to make sure that mine was NOT the worst birthday ever. (Happy Birthday, Christy. xoxo) When I picked up Kate it was bug day, and all the kids had brand new bug catchers. As luck would have it, there was a praying mantis on the bush in Kate's teachers yard, and when I pointed at it, it RAN UP MY ARM INSTEAD! I about peed myself, but managed to stay collected enough that I got it into the bug catcher. Then, after all that, Kate released the praying mantis within minutes because she wanted a grasshopper instead. I'm telling you, she is obsessed with the grasshoppers.
I hear Kiki banging the wall in her room, so I guess my peace and quiet is over.

I thought the name sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. Geographical distance is sometimes a b-yotch.
p.s. I HATE the way praying manti(?)/mantis' cling to your arms. It totally creeps me out.
This is a quote from your bad, very bad friend, who STILL has not sent a birthday greeting to you. Please don't take it as an indication of my level of loving admiration of you, Becca. Just remember... oh yeah, she's a slacker. But a loving slacker nonetheless. Happy b-day, friend. I love reading about your days.
Thanks! I feel the same way about you. Our conversation about politics has led me to more political conversations. Thanks to you, now I know what everyone is talking about and can contribute intellectually. Had a great time, let'd do it again soon!
