But, here's what I have made up my mind about- if we could vote on which candidate's spouses made it to the White House, it would be Michelle Obama/Jill Biden all the way! Here's my argument:
Cindy McCain is a Stepford Wife. The blank stare, the Oscar de la Renta wardrobe, the fact that she bought a $700,000 condo for her daughter Megan...there is nothing about her that would indicate that she understands AT ALL what is like to be an average American. She has never worried about money in her life (other than figuring out how to spend it all- hence the 7 residences). She just seems so disconnected from not only my life, but in some strange way she also seems disconnected from her OWN life. I'm not a fan.
Todd Palin = redneck. I'm something of an authority on rednecks having grown up in American Fork, attended lots of Judd family reunions, and went on several dates with a tow truck driver from Spanish Fork (not a joke. Well, it IS a joke on a lot of levels, so I guess I should say "not a LIE."). For pete's sake, the man prefers being called "First Dude." As if America isn't a big enough joke to other countries, do we really want the "First Dude" representing you and I at state dinners? He'd probably bring a hunting knife to cut his meat with. Let me project into the future and provide you with a probable conversation:
White House Guest: Do you like being married to the Vice President?
Todd: Does a bear @#$% in the woods?
White House Guest: I wouldn't know, as I am the delegate from Ghana.

Be afraid; be very afraid.
Michele is from a working class background, made it to an Ivy League school, and even though she is now a lawyer, she still shops at Target. I'd elect her on our mutual Target shopping alone. Jill Biden is a lifetime educator- almost two decades in PUBLIC education. I dig her- go to Wikepedia and read her profile, and see if you don't dig her a little too.
I hope in the next few weeks the candidates all choose to become less enigmatic and more plain so I can make up my mind. Frankly, though, someone's choice in their spouse reveals a lot about them, and all jokes aside, it plays into who gets my vote.

I bet the NYTimes would pick this up as an op-ed piece. Your political saviness is (as always) very astute.
I don't know who your friend Mark is but his blog entry was funny. Tell him to keep posting. I'm single and I do it. (Well, I don't DO IT but I post entries frequently)
On some level I hope our vote DOES matter. I have't really decided who to vote for either. And I totally agree they better start really talking issues and solutions! I did really enjoy your argument!! Great job tonight at the Wooden Spoon!! Sorry I had to miss your polenta. I've never had it and would have liked to see how I like it. Ashley sounds like my kind of gal. How old is she? My brother Mike is still unwed!!!
I'm considering putting a weekly "Becca's Corner" on my blog. You have such skills in the reasoning/writing department that I just totally lack. I can read your thoughts here and think, "That is EXACTLY what I think!" But I could never have stated it as eloquently. SO, may I have your permission to share your work with all my readers? Let me know.
Cindy McCain comes off cold and out of touch and the dress was a bad choice, but the McCains did give over 28 percent of their income to charitable causes according to tax returns, and she did adopt a disfigured child from a third world country. I'm not her biggest fan, but I do beleive she has a good heart, and has mostly chosen to do good things with her membership in the lucky sperm club.
I really could care less what a person's background is. What I really care about is 1) how much are they going to impact my life via tax hikes, tax cuts, etc. 2)what kind of judges will they appoint? will it be ones that allow the murder of babies or protection of life, and will they keep gov't out of our lives like the founding fathers envisioned (who are probobly rolling over in their graves right now.)
Because of BOTH of these... There is no way I can vote for BO. I'm not a fan of Johnny Mac either. I'm tired of having to choose the lesser of two evils. Why can't this country get people who could really help our country to vote for office??? Beacuse it's a sucky job and those with REAL talent simply aren't applying or the foolish american public only listens to the crap and 30 second soundbites they get from so called news agencies....
What a joke....
