D**n basement flooded again. Pardon the profanity, but if my mom wouldn't kill me dead for it, I'd be posting a for sale sign out front. I don't even have the inclination to post pictures. Just look at January's post if you are morbidly curious.
On the bright side- we caught it early, and it's not the same problem as last time. I was making my delicious Mediterranean Salad and found I needed olives from the storage room downstairs, and when I went down to get the olives I stepped in a puddle. That's always a confusing feeling, that fleeting moment where your brain is trying like heck to sort out why your feet are wet when you are standing ON CARPET. We caught it early, so the water was confined to the office area and storage room, and the new furniture has escaped harm. I learned my lesson last time, and I didn't have anything on the floor that wasn't in a bucket or a tote, so no property damage there either.
And it had to suck for Bruce. Getting a call at work that starts out, "Where's the shop vac? Why? Because our basement is flooding, that's why." That's got to be a highlight for him, poor guy.
As it turns out, our water main has decayed/rotted/flat out given up. It was leaking water, which filled a window well, which leaked into the house. We knew the water main was on its way out, and had actually saved up the money to replace it, so this just gave us a real sense of urgency about it. There's two guys out front with a backhoe and shovels who swear I'll be doing laundry and washing dishes before the day is out. Who knew that could sound like a GOOD kind of promise?
