I bought her some Listerine. She was excited about having her own mouthwash, especially because it is pink and it is her very own. I overheard her telling Grandpa Hatch, "My mom bought me some backwash."
Kate was playing monster trucks with her boy cousins. We aren't well-versed in boy toys around here, but Jake and DB tried their best to orient her to the world of monster trucks. They told her about the cool names the trucks had, like Gravedigger and other similarly masculine and semi-threatening monikers. Her girliness showed through however, when playing in the sandbox she said, "..and here comes Gold Digger!!"

My father-in-law has had an article published in this month's Ensign! Check it out on page 74 or thereabouts. Now that he is famous, I am one degree closer to Kevin Bacon!!

I read the funniest quote the other day and it reminded me of myself (and most of my cousins, sisters, and sisters in law, and you too Janet): I don't have OCD, I have CDO. It's basically the same, except the letters are in alphabetical order, like they should be.

Bruce has been out of town a few days, and it has been a little tough to be "on" all of the time. He is definitely working at something worthwhile, but it is hard nevertheless to not have him home at night. I look for little moments throughout the day to recharge and regain some perspective. Sometimes the girls just seem to drain me of everything I have inside. I finally got around to eating lunch today at 3:00, and I was desperately hungry and feeling even more lazy, so I heated a can of soup in the microwave. I had no sooner sat down than my two little "vultures" came over. That's what the girls remind me of, because it doesn't matter when their last meal was, if I sit down to eat, whatever I have is the most desirable thing ever to them. So they were begging, and I gave in. I had several quiet minutes where the girls slurped noodles and "broff." It was so peaceful, and as I watched the girls eat, I thought of mothers all over the world who can't meet their children's most basic needs. There is something so satisfying about seeing your baby's chubby little hands wrap around a noodle and shove it in her mouth, and yet there is something so primal about motherhood that I can hardly imagine the grief and desperation of the millions and millions of mothers worldwide who can find nothing for their babies to eat. We are so blessed. Even in these crazy economic times, almost every citizen of the USA has it better than most of the world. My spell of quiet thoughts was broken too soon, with Kiki spilling ice water, and Kate asking repeatedly, "Can I have more? Can I have more? Hey! Can I have more?" Yes, sweetheart, you can.

We ARE so blessed and it is sometimes so hard to remember that so hooray for you to find that little hic-up of peace and reflection with the storm blowing so close around you!! :) I honestly have so much awe, empathy and respect for single parents. As a member of the business widows club myself, I'm glad there is a return date to look forward to!!!
I love Kate and KiKi. They add so much to life. They are going to be so fun watching grow up!!
I couldn't have said it better. As they grow you will have more and more of those moments, and they are precious!
Sweet, Fabulous Becca! I hope you are holding up okay these days as a single mother. It really does make you realize how hard it must be for all those Moms that are completely on their own. You are one of the best moms, wives, aunts sis-in-laws I've ever known! Thanks for all the little reminders about how lucky we really are :)
Hi, Becca! I love your blog!

Just caught up on your last month of posts and was laughing out loud in a few spots. Loved Kate's "backwash" comment (and it hit a little close to home as Brynlee has been trying to drink from a cup lately)!
bec - you are incredible. one second i'm laughing out loud in an empty house and the next second i nearly shed a tear. (maybe i AM a bit emotionally unstable.....)
thank heavens for all our blessings, even chicken noodle soup. thanks for the reminder.
you're the best.
