Kate's First Broken Arm

Last Thursday Kate was doing a back handspring at tumbling when she heard a loud pop and felt a ton of pain in her arm.
Because I am an extremely sensitive person, I told her to quit the whining and go to bed...she'd feel better in the morning.
But she didn't.
We made an appointment with our pediatrician for later that day, and as it happens, her elbow is broken.
I felt so bad I took her to lunch and said, "Order whatever you want."
She replied, "I'm having the steak."

She wore a splint for a few days until she could be seen by the orthopedic surgeon.

Fortunately, her arm wasn't swollen and was lining up just right, so they were able to put her in a cast on Tuesday.

All done!

Except it was too tight!
So they had to cut it off and start all over.

Second time was the charm.

Her first signature.

Since we have two casts laying around, Kate's been working on her "Charlie Shelton" impression.

In the midst of all of this, Bruce had ankle surgery.

Guys, believe me when I say that I have lived through entire years that seemed shorter than this past week.
Thanks to all for the meals, the babysitting, and the calls to check in on us.

Today things seem back to normal.  Bruce has been able to go back to work, and Kate is back in school.  Kiki has had to deal with the shocking and painful revelation that the world doesn't revolve around her.  Kiki also took Kate's spot in tumbling.  "I hope I don't break MY arm!" she said as we walked out the door last night.

Maggie's First Lost Tooth

She wiggled it and wiggled it and wiggled it.
Then it came out and she was so excited she couldn't stop SCREAMING.
The Tooth Fairy came with $2.
The End.

Extra-Curricular Activities.

Kiki used her birthday money to buy "Operation."
If practicing medicine is in her future, it will probably be as an anesthesiologist, because she HATES all the complaining this guy does.

We had a fun day bowling with the girls.

Check out that form.

They learned it from me.

Kiki wanted pigtails the other day.
I couldn't believe how cute she looked in them.

My bonus brother's dog had puppies.  This one was the runt, and sadly she didn't make it.
I told Kiki that there seems to be a runt in every litter, and they usually die.
"That doesn't even make sense!" she said.
"Me and Kate are both alive."

There was a private recital.

We went to the Natural History Museum in SLC.
It is well worth going to.

The view from the deck of the museum.

This is hanging in Kate's room.
I laugh every time I see it.

And...we can't let too many days go by without a trip to the dino museum.

I don't know if they will ever get tired of this place.

The Dog

He's a little spoiled.
Even all those toys aren't enough to satisfy his hungry jaws, though.
The shoe casualties keep piling up.

Catching a Sunday afternoon nap.

We have a discipline problem...he feels like he belongs at the bar with the rest of us.

After a cold morning run he likes to wrap up in his "woobie."
Yes, he does indeed have a "woobie."

Dobermans are expert cuddlers.

Alter Ego.

This is his special reflective running vest.
As soon as I take it off the peg he gets very VERY excited.

Catching some rays.

Did you think I was kidding about the woobie?

We find him very handsome.

More of his expert cuddling.

Last Saturday we ran nine miles, and instead of wearing him out, he came home re-energized and ready to kill this zebra.

Why is it so funny when dogs sit up in chairs like people?

This is how he looks when he is begging for a jelly bean.
